Yes, from today the site has a new look.
I apologize to those who landed today on the website there were probably times when everything was not exactly in the right place, and probably some pages were not visible at some time. Now all major problems should be fixed, for what i know there are just some small glitches left: the time when a comment has been posted for example.

So goodbye dear brownline theme, you were nice to me but to be true in these 8 months I had a bit of criticism about its layout and the fact that it was too dark and not very readable.

And of course, welcome to the new theme, I moved on Suffusion a light theme, with many customizable options, let’s see some that I used on the site.

These are some of the great features i’ve found in this theme:

1) Multiple “skins” out of the box
Suffusion has 17 pre-defined color schemes for you to choose from. Moreover you can pick a skin and customize the colors further based on your likes and dislikes. i’m using “Orange on a light theme” not a dark brown like the former theme but there is still something of the old style.

2) Featured Posts section
The theme leverages the amazing JQuery Cycle plugin to build a featured posts section. What’s more – it lets you pick a transition effect from JQuery’s entire array of effects: fade-in, slide-up, slide-right etc. I think, that’s very well done and useful to show the most important articles.

3) Widget areas and widgets
Suffusion provides you with 19 different widget areas to place your widgets. These widget areas let you define a theme with one column, two columns or three columns, and have the added advantage of letting you define widgets above and below your content. Suffusion also comes with bundled widgets for Twitter, Social media, Category Posts etc that you can set up.

4) Integration of SEO tools
Within the theme there is a configuration area where you can select whether to use the tag of an article as meta tags, how to create the titles of the pages and many other things; useful to not install additional plugins but still have, all the basic functionality of a SEO optimized site.

5) Variable width
My former theme was a fixed width theme, it was designed for work for a 1024×768 resolution, Soffusion can work in both modes, now i’m using the variable width and on my 1600×1200 look much better.

I hope that you like the new theme and layout, at the moment it seems to me very functional and well organized, for readability I also removed a column on the right and removed all the adsense on the sidebar, leaving only one banner at the top.

I’d like to reach within the end of the month 100 fans on my Facebook fan page, so if you liked this change, make me happy and click the “like“, or just leave a comment.

Please leave me a comment also if you notice some mistake, error or in general something not working.

EDIT: Added a theme selector, so if you really preferred the old theme you can still use it, just select it from the theme selector widget or go at this url: http://www.linuxaria.com/?wptheme=brownline

EDIT2: I’ve received some complains because with Suffusion theme (the new one) the site is not visible at all users that have Konqueror, Midori and Safari Mobile, so what i’ve done is to put a check for the user-agent that is connecting and if it match some rules put a cookie that change the Theme with the old one; it’s still possible to change via the theme selector, but if you use Konqueror or Midori, don’t do it, ReKonq users can do this, i tested successfully the site with ReKonq 0.6.1

  1. Well, it’s makes your site less unique. I’ve seen this look over and over again. The old one was almost unique to you – even if the all capital letter headlines was annoying as all pete. It’s a lot slower now too.

But this new theme or whatever won’t even work in Konqueror. I get a blank page. I guess I won’t be linking to you anymore.

    • Hello Susan

I totally agree on the style, i took my former theme also because was something not so common, but as you pointed out has some problem with long titles or too many tags.

Regarding the loading time and Konqueror , i’ll do some test today, i hope to improve this.
And at last regarding the linking, my first goal is to give content, and so i hope you’ll follow my blog regardless of the theme, i’ve changed it after a lot of critique about it but it’s never been so important to me the layout of the site.

And at last if others really don’t like the new one i can always return to the old 😉

    • Susan,
Please check this url with Konqueror: http://www.linuxaria.com/?wptheme=brownline i’ve thought that the easier thing to do was to keep both themes.
I’ve add a theme selector for the site, let me know if this work.

  2. New look is great! Ubuntu’s colours are the past.

  3. Just in time, some friend didn’t like the other theme.

    Great, great look 🙂

  4. Really like the new site. I always have trouble reading dark web pages – can not see the text especially with dark background and medium text of the same colour. I use nosquint firefox add-on to help remove backgrounds etc.

    • Thanks, in general i like too brighter themes.

@Crow, i’ve saw that some user had problems with Midori and Konqueror with Suffusion theme (the new one) , so what i’ve done is to put a check for the user-agent that is connecting and if it match some rules put a cookie that change the Theme with the old one; it’s still possible to change via the theme selector, but if you use Konqueror or Midori, don’t do it, ReKonq users can do this, i tested successfully the site with ReKonq 0.6.1
