The Story

Estranged tells a tale wrapped in mystery. The player begins the game being shipwrecked on an isolated island, where of course all is not as it first seems. You will have to try and escape, with occasional help along the way, and occasional danger in the form of some new foes. The first thing that hits you is some great attention to detail in level design, from the ship swaying violently around you to the moonlit shoreline. It’s clear that the creators are striving for atmosphere above all else. The locations themselves all feel grounded and part of the world and optional extras like newspaper cuttings and even usable computers add more pieces to the puzzle.

Conclusion

If you’ve played Half Life 2, or any mod based on this engine you will find yourself right at home in this game, the strengths are a strong Horror setting, a great soundtrack and an interesting story, you should be able to finish the game in around an hour of gameplay, so you’ll be ready to wait for act 2.
