After the upgrade to 10.2 i’ve ran in a know Flash bug and now i can see youtube only in black and white, i’ve searched the net a bit and i’ve found that’s a common problem. The cause seems to be a combination of Flash 10.2, a recent YouTube change and the users graphics cards and seems to be browser-independent (can occur in Firefox 3.x, Firefox 4 beta as well as Chrome / Chromium).
If you have this bug too on webupd8.org there is an article with several fixes to the bug.
Personally i’m a bit tired of all these flash issue, and while waiting for html 5, i’ve took a look around to try some alternatives and in particular for youtube I’ve found minitube.

Sorry, no posts today on the penguin, I’ve been a bit busy with two things that took away a bit of time, that I want to tell: flattr and wordpress 3.1.
Flattr , today I joined the site flattr.com, i like the idea behind this project very much, make micro-payments to those sites or projects that i choose to help, also with small amount, to support them economically.
wordpress 3.1, On February 23, 2011, WordPress Version 3.1 “Reinhardt” was released, i waited until today to see if there were some know bug to avoid before upgrading, and today i did it… well almost painless.

Today I’ll show you two tools to be used int the terminal to monitor your network and the active connections: iptstate and pkstat
IPTState is a top-like interface to your netfilter connection-tracking table.
Using iptstate you interactively watch where traffic crossing your netfilter/iptables firewall is going, sort by various criteria, limit the view by various criteria. But it doesn’t stop there: as of version 2.2.0 you can even delete states from the table!
The only requirements are a curses library (usually ncurses), and libnetfilter_conntrack version 0.0.50 or later.
In a former article we saw something about Inotify.
inotify is a Linux kernel subsystem that acts to extend filesystems to notice changes to the filesystem, and report those changes to applications. It replaces an earlier facility, dnotify, which had similar goals.
Last time I focused on the functionality of inotifywait command which can be used by shell to wait for a certain event and then perform other functions, but today we will see some uses of incron.
This program is an “inotify cron” system. It consists of a daemon and a table manipulator. You can use it a similar way as the regular cron. The difference is that the inotify cron handles filesystem events rather than time periods. Continue reading »
