You are root on your system, you do a rm of a file and get a “rm: can not remove` test ‘: Operation not permitted” is this possible?
Yes, if there are any special extended attributes set on your filesystem.

The “interesting” thing is that also some rootkit use these attribute after have changed some binary (ps, netstat) so restoring the originals it’s a bit harder.

But don’t worry in this article i’ll present you the lsattr and chattr commands that will help you in list and manipulate the extended attribute on your Linux box

Recently I discovered a new kind of Linux: DoudouLinux.

It is not a new distribution, but a Debian is a tailor-made for children, the designer Jean-Michael says that is usable by children two years old.

And in fact by starting this live meta-distro you get a rich and colorful menu from which childrens can choose what to play.

Intrigued by the project, I asked Jean-Michel an interview and him very kindly accepted to answer my questions, this is also a good chance to introduce his project in Italy and other country where it still is not widely known.

After the article “Linux Distro as Food” which has been very successful i’ve decided to think this time: If every Linux distribution was a song, which would you choose to listen ?

I’ll try to resume for every distro the keywords that come to my mind thinking at it; add to these keyword the year of publication and the word song, we’ll see what’s the first music video of an artist doing a search in google video.
