Easydriver at Codemotion 2011

I’ve received from Paolo Proni the slides that he presented at the ignite session at codemotion in Rome.
I thank Paolo and i gladly publish this short presentation that introduces the concepts behind the design of Easy Driver.

Sorry, no posts today on the penguin, I’ve been a bit busy with two things that took away a bit of time, that I want to tell: flattr and wordpress 3.1.

Flattr , today I joined the site flattr.com, i like the idea behind this project very much, make micro-payments to those sites or projects that i choose to help, also with small amount, to support them economically.

wordpress 3.1, On February 23, 2011, WordPress Version 3.1 “Reinhardt” was released, i waited until today to see if there were some know bug to avoid before upgrading, and today i did it… well almost painless.

I want to start publishing a list of the most read articles of Linuxaria in the previous months, we start today with the most read stories of January 2011:

7) Compression programs on Linux

In a previous article about the tar program I mentioned gzip and bzip2 compression methods as options to create a tarball (and I forgot xz).

To make amends today I will introduce the main methods to compress the file and I’ll do some tests to see how they behave.
I will consider zip, gzip, bzip2 and xv, i will not test compress another compression program present on Linux systems but now dated and surpassed by the other programs. Continue reading »

I bought a new monitor at home and added a second monitor in the office, so I had a lot to do with the graphics of my Linux setup.

What do you use in these cases? My preferred tool for all these operations is certainly xrandr .

In particular I’m used to use it from the command line version and after doing some tests using the syntax that i’ve found in the startup of the graphic environment.

In this article we will see some common use case.

Easy Driver is a project to access the databases, it is Free and Open Source. It is formed of a Java library and a code generator.

The experience made writing directly the queries with JDBC taught us that it’s common to have a lot of redundant code. This is a well known source of troubles during the maintenance and it raises the costs, when writing and maintaining the code.

The object oriented paradigm does not fit well with the relational model of the most often used databases.
Another problem which afflict the database world is its fragmentation. SQL has been developed in several dialects, despite its standardization attempts.
