I came across by chance in what I consider one of the more comprehensive guide to creating audio in Linux, and Stefano gave me the permission to republish his material that I consider really good and that he uses as musician.

Stefano it’s an Ubuntu user and his guide it’s based on this distribution, he’s really active in the Ubuntu italian community, if you want to make him a question regarding his guide, you can post in this thread http://forum.ubuntu-it.org/index.php/topic,278719.0.html, the language of the forum is Italian, but i’m sure that you’ll get some answers also if you ask kindly in English.

This is part 1, i plan to republish the whole guide in 4 parts in the next days.

Gmail backup with Linux

Gmail has become for many the favorite e-mail account, being very comfortable, with plenty of space available and a web interface that can be used through various devices: smartphone, laptop or desktop. But I guess that all of you know already all the advantages of using these email accounts so that they are becoming very important for us … but have you ever thought about making a backup of these mails ?

Yes Google is certainly very capable and reliable, but in the end, you do not have activate a free account with few thing assured ?

And it can happen to delete by mistake from the web interface one or more emails, even in these cases perhaps a backup can save us.

Thus we’ll see three ways to do a backup on your personal computer of all mail in a Gmail account.

SpamAssassin is an implementation that uses a scoring system based on a genetic algorithm to identify messages that could be suspected of being unsolicited sent via mass mailings systems, adding headers to the message so that it can be filtered by the email client MUA> ( Mail User Agent).

About Procmail.
Procmail is a program that works like MDA ( Mail Delivery Agent) that is used to manage the delivery of local mail system. Also allows automatic filtering of e-mail, pre-sorting and other tasks.

Procmail can be used interchangeably with Sendmail and Postfix.

Introduction

When a server environment is created using virtualization software or a cloud service, the number of servers tends to increase rapidly. Software installation and configuration are required every time a server is created. Further, synchronizing server configurations requires additional effort such as writing shell scripts.

In this article, we will describe how to build a server environment automatically using a relatively new software tool called Puppet. Although this tool is typically used to manage large-scale server infrastructure (such as a data center or a Web service with a large number of users), it can also be used to manage a small number of servers. Today i want to show you some examples done with Zenity.

Zenity is a cross-platform program that allows the execution of GTK+ dialog boxes in command-line and shell scripts.

Like tools such as whiptail and dialog, zenity allows for easy creation of GUIs, though it has fewer features than more complex GUI creation tools: “Other scripting languages such as Perl and Python can be used to construct full-scale GUI applications, but the zenity program enables a shell script to interact with a GUI user…. [The] user interface is not as refined as one that could be provided by a full-featured GUI application, but it is perfectly suitable for simple interactions.”
