#! CrunchBang 10 “Statler” Review

After all those rich desktop Environment saw in Ubuntu, Chackra or Gnome 3 in general i needed a desktop minimalistic and comfortable, so today I’ve done some test on #! Crunchbang 10, it’s a Debian GNU/Linux based distribution with a lightweight desktop Environments: Openbox and optionally XFCE.

I’ve tested it with a virtualmachine on Virtualbox, installation made at 32 bit with Openbox.
Short story : i loved this Debian 6 in black and white, with custom Kernel and a minimalistic approach.

Introduction

First of all, I would like to thank Riccardo to let me post this article in his wonderful blog.

I’ll write this time about Slackware and the imminent release of the 13.37 version, why 13.37? strange release number for Slackware, but for the first time Slackware has a codename, it is “leet” so 13.37 = leet :).

This is a book i’ve just finished reading, and that i found really interesting.
The author is Thomas A. Limoncelli, a system administrator that had the great idea to put on a book his tricks to deal with every day small and big problem a system administrator has in his every day work about time management and interruptions.

Bodhi Linux 1.0 review

I liked from the beginning the idea behind Bodhi Linux and so I followed the progress of this young version of Linux and take advantage of version 1.0 (congratulations to Jeff and the entire team) to make a review.

For the uninitiated Bodhi Linux is a recent project that taking as a base Ubuntu 10.04 “reconstructs” the Enlightenment desktop, it use the login system manager of LXDE (and also as the terminal) and offers its own package system (.bod); The system being based on Ubuntu is still compatible with .deb and dpkg and aptitude can be used without problems.
