Steam is a great source for any gamer. It is a place that will allow you to try out and enjoy many of the more popular video games that are available on the market today. Steam Greenlight will allow you to vote on games that you would like to see come available. It is a great system for gamers, so they do not have to drop $50 to purchase every game off the shelf. They can simply join Steam and enjoy the most popular ones at a reduced price.

Steam is not only a place to acquire games to play it is also a place where you can talk with other gamers and possibly get information on cheat codes or creative ways to pass a particularly difficult level. It is convenient and rather popular.

Linux Gaming

Linux has always had its own style of gaming. The Linux users had to get creative in order to find a way to download games that were specifically created for the Windows OS to their Linux OS, but the Wine made most of this possible. There are also games that were specifically created for users on the Linux system. It originally seemed like gaming was more of an afterthought with the Linux OS, but lately Linux developers have been pushing their gaming development.

I just discovered this great opportunity thanks to a colleague of mine, and i want to share this information with all of you.
Just for 24 hours it’s possible to get Crossover Linux and 1 year of support for free.

What’s Crossover Linux ?

From wikipedia:

CrossOver (a.k.a. CrossOver Office before version 6.0) is the collective name for two commercial and proprietary programs developed by CodeWeavers that allow many Windows-based applications to run on Linux and Mac OS X using a compatibility layer. The programs include CrossOver Mac and CrossOver Linux.

Small news for my readers, one of the game included in one of my article the Top 10 games for Linux in 2012 , is available until the 21 of October in a Indie Bundle, that as usual means that you can get it, and something more, with a very low budget.

To be honest of the 5 games available in this bundle just 2 are ported on Linux, but one of them is Oil Rush that, in my opinion, is worth alone the price of the whole bundle.

In the last 2 days I’ve been busy with my new desktop, I’ll use it as my home computer where i browse, write office documents do some gaming everything on Linux of course.
With my requirements more or less any new hardware will work for me, sometimes i wonder why people with not knowledge of PC buys computers for more than 1500$, I’ve bought (thanks ebay) a cheap dual core pentium (G620) on a Asrock H61M-HVS motherboard + 8GB Ram (Kingston DDR3) + a Hard disk Seagate 500GB 7200RPM 16MB buffer and a Radeon Sapphire HD 5450 with 2048MB GDDR3 RAM on board, all for around 430 $.

To this list I’ve added a D-Link Wireless N 150 usb adapeter ( DWA-125 ), the piece of … hardware that has given more problens in the setup, but now it’s up and running too, in my next post a small guide on how to make it works on Linux.

As a new thing for my desktop and as anticipated by title I’ve decided to move from Ubuntu to Mint, staying on the XFCE edition.
On my desktop I’ve always used .deb distributions, and so after Debian and Ubuntu it’s now time to test Mint, I’ve heard a lot of praise on it and so i want to test it on first hand after 2 years and half of Ubuntu, to be honest this decision has been taken also after some “commercial” choices of Canonical for their next release and Unity a DE that I’ve never liked, i prefer much more Cinnamon, that i use on my Laptop with gentoo.

I received an email from two Italian Linux user : Alessio and Michele AKA Alexiobash and Tonberry, both very active in the Italian scene about Linux/Open Source , in this message they announced their new initiative: SSLDISTRO – SIMPLE SEARCH LINUX DISTRO.

Ssldistro is a project born to offer at Linux users a customized HomePage for their distros.
The various homepage were created in order for the user to make their own research using a single page, thereby speeding up the search process.
Currently you can search directly onGoogle, gmail, youtube, facebook, twitter, wikipedia and depending on distro you can search directly in the wiki and the official forum and, in some cases, you can also search for software packages. Continue reading »
