Gameplay

Before you get into the action, you will have to choose a character from 17 different choices. Each of these characters has its own abilities, and your selection should be determined by the particular “world” that you want to conquer. The one thing that all these characters have in common is that they can all use gold, so it would be helpful to purchase a gold mine right off the bat. That being said, only the Enchanter has the ability to create a Gold Golem.

You explore your surroundings conquer locations that provides the resources you need. Resources needed vary much depending on what character you are, e.g. the high priestess need places where she can gather human sacrifices, the baron needs places where tax can be collected and where iron can be mined. These resources can then be used for magic rituals and troop recruitments.

One thing that may or may not appeal to you about the game is that the action starts off pretty quickly, with hardly any letup throughout. While this keeps things interesting throughout the game, it also means that you can lose your life at any point.

Another key characteristic of the game is that worlds are created in a totally random fashion, which means that no two games are exactly alike. This random nature also gives rise to many different scenarios that can end your life, sometimes unfairly. That is the nature of Conquest of Elysium 3, so if you are looking for a predictable game in which you are fairly sure that you can last through to the end, this probably isn’t the best choice.

In addition to the numerous monsters–each with its own special abilities–the game also includes assassins that can make attacks before the action begins. Along the way, you will be come across various characters that have the ability to lob boulders to devastating effect. Making things even more challenging is the fact that some opponents–the trolls in particular–can actually come back to life if they haven’t incurred too much damage.

You can also expect to encounter some pretty large worms that have the ability to devour smaller enemies and keep the in their guts until their lives run out. If a worm swallows something that you need, you will have to do your best to reclaim them by killing off the worm.

The weapons themselves are particularly worthy of mention. This latest version of the game comes with a variety of weapons selections, divided into categories for piercing, slashing, or bludgeoning. You also have a number of magic-based attack maneuvers to choose from, some of which can cause sign damage to your opponents. You also have the powers of stealth and invisibility, both of which will definitely come in handy when coming up against the more formidable opponents in the game.

One of the best things about Conquest of Elysium 3 is that its system requirements are pretty modest. Even with an older machine, you should be able to run it smoothly and have hours of fun without any significant dropouts it slowing down.
