I’m a Xubuntu user, and so i was a bit disappointed that for some days my Xubuntu 12.04 missed the 4.10 release of XFCE.

Luckily there is an easy way to install this version of XFCE on Ubuntu, there is an PPA that can bring the new feature of XFCE in your Ubuntu  in few minutes.

Just open a terminal and give these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Once everything is done you’ll have to log out and login again, congratulations you now have XFCE 4.10.

Let’s see what are the features of this new release.

 There was a contest…
If you are unaware of it, you have probably missed a good chance to win a prize.
If you are aware, but have not taken part, then you have probably missed a good chance to win a prize too.
And if you have taken part in contest, then we all, Zorin OS team, Linuxaria and DarkDuck, say “thank you“!
The joint contest had a great success. We have received many more submissions than we ever expected. Honestly!
It was a hard work for us to choose the winners, but finally we found the best-of-the-best.
Here is the list of winners:
  1. DVD with Zorin OS 6 Premium goes to Connie who wrote a wonderful poem In Praise of Zorin Linux.
  2. 15 USD bonus at Desura (or alternative) from Linuxaria goes to Ken Cominsky who wrote The Story of Zorin: A Modern Day (computing) Fairy Tale.
  3. 10 GBP voucher for Amazon.co.uk from BuyLinuxCDs site goes to Gary Newell who wrote I started using LINUX because I didn’t want to wait 20 minutes to find out the weather forecast.
  4. CD with any Linux distribution of his choice from Linux Notes from DarkDuck goes to Steven Abeyta and his Discovering Zorin OS.
  5. 1 Gb USB stick  from Linux Notes from DarkDuck goes to Joe Chang who wrote I always come back to Zorin OS.
The winning articles will be published on respective resources, along with some other submissions, which did not get the prize, but deserve publishing nonetheless. So, keep tuned to us!

This is a terrible news for my spare time, a new, and IMO really good, Humble Indie Bundle (HIB) is out and there are some really good games in this offer.

This time there are 4 (5) fantastic games and their soundtrack is also available in FLAC and MP3 format, the 5 games are:

Amnesia: The Dark Descent; LIMBO; Psychonauts; Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP; and, for customers who pay more than the average price, the action-RPG, Bastion.

What’s is HIB ? in short:

The Humble Indie Bundles or Humble Bundles are a series of game bundles that are sold and distributed online at a price determined by the purchaser. The games are multi-platform, DRM-free, and independently developed, and buyers can set the revenue split between the developers, charities and humble bundle organizers.

Thanks Wikipedia.

But let’s take a quick look at these 5 games

When and Where ? June 25-27, 2012 at the Santa Clara CA, Convention Center.

What’s this conference about ? From their official site:

The only things expanding faster than new techniques and technologies to build a faster, stronger web are the expectations of web and mobile users.

To succeed in this ever-shifting, increasingly complex domain, you need to master a daunting array of web performance, operations, and mobile performance issues. Speed or reliability is no longer an option; both are assumed. Your pages and services must be fast, reliable, secure, and unbreakable. Your infrastructure must be efficiently scalable. Massive amounts of data must be captured and stored, and it all must work efficiently, reliably, and elegantly on an ever-expanding array of devices.
