On many occasions, you might want to resize a PDF to send it by Email or put it on the web, today I had more than 50MB of PDF to be put as attachment of an article, and that was really too much. Using Linux you just need the program ghostscript to do everything and with a few commands you’ll have your resized documents.

For example my 50MB of documents become 15MB once I resized the PDF keeping a good quality, much better,

Like 1 year ago today I prefer to post a collection of the best April Fools that I’ve found around, some about Gnu/Linux and open source in general, but also on online service such as Twitter and youtube.

YouTube Contest Submissions Closing Tomorrow at Midnight

Monstrerpg2

Disclaimer: If you like fast paced action games, or games with a stunning graphics, move away.
Monster RPG 2 is a free/open source console style role playing game (perhaps most accurately, a JRPG) with a lot of depth and old-school character. It is available for iDevices (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad), Android, PC (Windows, Mac, Linux) and now Raspberry Pi.

Some of its main features are:

  • Nineteen locations to discover and explore
  • Nine adventurers to add to the party, develop and lead.
  • Turn-based combat against over ninety monster types.
  • Eighteen spells for Magic Users and Clerics to cast (not including spells cast by monsters!)
  • Enough swords, guns, potions, helmets, badges, keys, staves and armor to keep any adventurer stocked for life.

The game has been “liberated” in November 2012, when the author raised 1500$ to release the code and distribute freely the game for all the platforms.

Master PDF Editor is a free tool for personal use on Linux systems, it is not open source, but is an option to consider for the tasks involving editing and modifying pdf files.
It is a complete solution for creating and editing both PDF and XPS files, and lets you add content to existing PDF and XPS files. You can add, edit, import, add images. You can also add text, or edit it. Similarly, you can add or remove pages, change the format of the pages, and of course change the PDF information, author, title, subject, keywords and other information about the document.

Besides these features, you can also encrypt and convert PDF files to XPS format.

Another interesting feature of this application is that it lets you create and edit forms, from buttons, combo boxes, list boxes, text entry boxes and more.
