linode Today I’ve activated a new VPS on Linode and worked all day to set it up to host linuxaria.com. Why Linode ?
First, it’s been suggested by some friends (thanks Guillermo), second I’ve found only good review on the net about them and third there are a lot of useful information on their (now our) community page.

Some features of Linode are listed here

I’ve started also the DNS transfer so in the next days there could be some small (hopefully) problems, but I’m sure that in the end the site will be much more reliable and fast than with the actual hosting company.

And this is some detail on my new setup: Continue reading »

full-desktop-ss-gnomeToday has been released Fedora 15 (codename Lovelock); it’s some time i don’t use Fedora as Desktop, i think to have switched distribution around Fedora 2 or 3, from that time I’ve become a Fan of Gentoo or all .deb distributions, but I’ve read wonderful review of the last 2/3 Fedora and so, why don’t test this.

I’ve downloaded the default Desktop release that is a Gnome 3 release, but Fedora is also available with KDE, XFCE and LXDE.
You can download your favourite flavour here

Please note, if you want to test it (Gnome 3 release) on a Virtual Machine or old computer the minimum memory you need to install is 640 MB otherwise Fedora will refuse to install (i noticed it on the first run on a VM with 512 MB).

terminator I’ve found this terminal while testing Crunchbang, Terminator is CrunchBang’s default terminal. Its based on Gnome terminal, its best feature is it’s ability to show multiple terminals on one screen, but it also uses tabs aswell.

It is inspired by programs such as gnome-multi-term, quadkonsole, etc. in that the main focus is arranging terminals in grids (tabs is the most common default method).

INX Whether you’re a fan of the command line or the novice I recommend you to do a test with INX (INX Is Not X), this is a minimal Linux distribution that has the characteristic of not having any graphical desktop, all the tools and packages provided work in the terminal.

INX is a Live CD currently based on Ubuntu 8.04, a bit old but for the tools it ships and the goal this is enough.
Keep in mind that this distribution is more a proof of concept and a good way for learning some trick from the terminal but is not to be used as standard environment.
