Open Source conference – Scale 11X

I’ve received an email about this conference, and so gladly i propose it to Linuxaria readers. SCaLE stand for South California Linux Expo and it’s held at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport on February 22-24, 2013

I think that I can say that SCaLE has become the largest, small event in favor of the open source and looking at the list of speakers and presentations I can think only one thing … unfortunately, I can not go there.

Good topics and prominent names of the community, well done SCaLE!

Humble Indie Bundle 7 has been just released

We are close to Christmas and it’s that time again Humble Indie Bundle (HIB) number seven is been released this is the list of games that you’ll find this time: The Binding of Isaac (and its DLC, Wrath of the Lamb), Closure, Shank 2, Snapshot, and Indie Game: The Movie! And if you pay over the average, you’ll also get Dungeon Defenders (and its DLC) and Legend of Grimrock !

What’s is HIB ? in short:

The Humble Indie Bundles or Humble Bundles are a series of game bundles that are sold and distributed online at a price determined by the purchaser. Steam for Linux available for all in less than 1 week

Valve has announced on a private mailing list that the Steam client for Linux beta will be opened to everyone from the coming week, this after an initial launch of a closed beta that lasted about 1 month.

Because of the stability provided by the client of Steam for Linux, Valve has finally decided to open the beta to everyone.
In this regard they indicate in the mailing list:

“The Open Beta will be available to the public and will increase the current population from 80K to a higher number”

If you’re a real gamer you know just how terrifying Windows 8 can be. With the changes they’ve made there just might not be any sort of viable way for real gamers to get the kind of experience they want.

Expect seriously inconvenient DRM implementations and major difficulties for independent developers because of the proprietary (and profitable) app store built in to Windows 8. Independent developers are going to have no choice but to make the transition, meaning quality free games will disappear, too.

The Big Boys Will Still Be There, Though… Right?

You can expect the Steam client to be present on Windows 8 for a long time to come. There will also be many games and franchises created by your favorite publishers. But with many of the issues we’ve seen even the biggest publishers face with app stores, they might not be willing to work as hard as Microsoft wants them to.

Steam is a great source for any gamer. It is a place that will allow you to try out and enjoy many of the more popular video games that are available on the market today. Steam Greenlight will allow you to vote on games that you would like to see come available. It is a great system for gamers, so they do not have to drop $50 to purchase every game off the shelf. They can simply join Steam and enjoy the most popular ones at a reduced price.

Steam is not only a place to acquire games to play it is also a place where you can talk with other gamers and possibly get information on cheat codes or creative ways to pass a particularly difficult level. It is convenient and rather popular.

Linux Gaming

Linux has always had its own style of gaming. The Linux users had to get creative in order to find a way to download games that were specifically created for the Windows OS to their Linux OS, but the Wine made most of this possible. There are also games that were specifically created for users on the Linux system. It originally seemed like gaming was more of an afterthought with the Linux OS, but lately Linux developers have been pushing their gaming development.
